The company believes it can scale up security performance using an enterprise's own computing resources. The software-based product, FireGrid, leverages unused computing capacity to deliver application firewall, intrusion detection/prevention, anomaly detection and application-based traffic shaping at 10Gbit/sec speed, Red Lambda claims." IT Execs Increasingly Confident in the Private Cloud

"Is a better understanding of private cloud services enough to spur user adoption? Maybe, according to a benchmark survey of IT executives taken at Platform Computing's International Supercomputing Conference last June. Although demand for such services clocked in at the same figure as the year before –28 percent – the executives polled by the London-based cluster, grid and cloud management software vendor indicated a different set of primary reasons to initiate deployments. This in turn may be a sign not only of growing awareness for private clouds, but also a deeper understanding of their benefits and pitfalls that could ultimately spur adoption, as well as greater customer satisfaction." What is IAAS?

What is IAAS? It is Infrastructure as a Service. Cloud.com launched a scalable IAAS service offering. By definition, IAAS needs to be scalable. The same with any Virtualization service. Why? Because the customer is expecting these services - anything in the Cloud - to grow on demand for them.

IAAS is when your Managed Service Provider, like Host.Net, provides all of the computing hardware - the platform if you will - for your software applications (like office suites, CRM, ERP, EMR, et al) to reside on for global access. It has also been called Platform as a Service (PAAS).

Bottom line: as Host.Net explains, IAAS and PAAS means that you (the customer) can deliver apps but get out of the data center business. Host.Net further explains that they take you out of the hardware business!

Here's one attendees perspective on the CloudExpo in NYC: click here.

Two key observations:

One; "In general, attendees have moved from being there to learn what cloud is to learning how they can use it in their business."

Two, "“Cloud Security” is still an oxymoron. No big surprise here. Customers know they want it, vendors and software companies say they have it, and few are getting or delivering anything close. I pointed so many people to the Cloud Security Alliance and CloudAudit projects that I’m actually tired of talking about them. There were a number of booths that said something like “We are the cloud security experts” – and from talking to them, there wasn’t a single person at the booth that could tell me why they were ‘experts’"
